Her head feels clear - truly clear - for the first time in weeks.
Elena slips her hand up into her hair, fingertips dragging down her nape as though she expects to find the tattoo inked on her neck again. You just never know in Hell. But for once, there is no mark to be found on her. At least, not in a physical sense.
There's still the memory of it. There's still the experience of what ended up being a harrowing month in more ways than one. But this is Elena Gilbert, and so this is what she does after tragedy strikes: she gets out of bed and she tries all over again.
Some roommates are still sleeping, and others elsewhere. She's the only one in their common living space. The knock on the door comes when Elena is in the kitchen making herself some coffee. With a curious frown, she makes her way over to see who's visiting.
Wynonna still has the mark on her shoulder (hasn't she always had a target on her back?) but she's trying to move forward all the same. Things haven't been really great for her lately, but maybe Doc's made headway into looking into Lucifer's Island.
Probably not, but maybe? He did help save her, along with Homelander. It doesn't make things less complicated, but it means something.
She knocks on the door and it's not Doc who answers, but Elena. She's glad to see Elena is well -- she hasn't been able to check in with the other parts of team human yet.
⟨ As far as Jason could tell, Klaus was a creature of habit. Some time passed, no big deal. A little more, worry set in. A couple inquiries later, Jason's at Wynonna's bedroom door with a bottle of whiskey in his hand and gentle knocks. ⟩
Hey ⟨ he speaks through the door, quieter than normal. ⟩ You home?
(wynonna had been worried when he went missing, afraid he was taken to the island or the hospital -- but what she had found out was much worse, a much more painful truth to swallow. he was gone. gone gone. and it's not like she can be comforted with the idea that he's home with his daughter when she knows back home he's dead. she's been holed up in her room, curled up on her bed and staring at the wall numbly when she hears the knock on her door. and then she hears jason's voice.)
(waverly hasn't returned her calls or texts in a couple of days and it feels like the straw that breaks the camel's back. wynonna has tried to play ball since barbas took over. doc is forced to honor a marriage he didn't plan. so is homelander. jason got sent home. people are being punished and hurt and people are planning on rebelling and waverly helped fucking fitz and his stupid plans and now she's gone and she's not going to just sit around and wait for her to come back.
which is why she can be found in the hall of the hotel, guns blazing against a group of demons that are trying to prevent her from finding barbas' office.)
Not to be a Karen or anything, but I just want a chance to talk to the manager, is that so much to ask?
(maybe this won't get her anywhere but she's tired of not doing anything, and she'd be lying if she said there wasn't some satisfaction in watching peacemaker glow as it takes a couple of them out. but more and more seem to be coming...more than probably one person, even her, can take out.)
[ the sound of wynonna's voice is unmistakable, and so is the steely threat behind it.
elena picks up her pace as she rounds the corner and sees her, peacemaker, and a growing horde of demons. she races down the hallway in an effort to reach wynonna before all hell can break loose... not that it hasn't already in every way that matters. ]
Wait! Stop.
[ it's not that the demons have any plans to listen to elena, it's that her arrival is enough of a surprise that it stops them in their tracks — for now. she touches wynonna's forearm, her other hand extending in front of them and toward the demons. ] What's going on?
( doc thought he need only share what Lucifer had impressed upon him, but circumstances exceeded his control. he remembers wanting to share Lucifer's (false?) offer, but becoming side tracked by his "day job." he spent the next few weeks performing that day job, slipping further into the facade of the vampiric, violent, but affable gym teacher and part-time bartender. it was he that took Raymond up on his offer, not Doc. but, Doc and gym teacher Henry were one in the same. now that he is himself again, he has yet more to discuss. this is not a conversation he'd like to be having, but it is better he has it with her. they made their resolution. he is trying to keep up with it.
he starts light. he'll move into the more serious discussion. )
As I am sure we all are, I am myself again. I burned the headband.
(comparitevly, her own version of the event was not...as eventful. okay so when waverly was in captivity she and jon and elena might have gotten in a fight with some demons, and she might have a couple of hook ups....but nothing too out of the ordinary for her behavior, honestly. she's just glad to be done with it. high school had been the last thing she ever wanted to relive.)
I trashed the whole damn uniform. I felt like a walking fetish.
Homelander pulls Doc and Ray up through the ceiling, leaving the sisters in his wake. Waverly's hands come up, trying to find a way to cover the wounds. She may be attempting to keep the blood off her dress out of habit, but mostly she's just trying to keep herself from continuing to bleed.
She's also vibrating somewhere between angry and anguished so in the end, all she can manage is a frustrated:
"Well, this is officially the worst fancy dress up party ever."
"Yep. I thought Bobo's was the worst, but this tops it somehow."
Wynonna is furious and hurt and about twenty other emotions right now, but concern overrides the rest of them. They need to get out of here as quickly as possible. Wynonna has no qualms ripping off a strip of her dress and handing it to Waverly.
"Press that to your wound, at least until we make it back to the room."
Once they get back they can figure out what to do next.
(it's a few days after the dinner that wynonna calls the meeting. she would give waverly longer....but there's a lot of information to go after, and she wants to keep jon and elena in the loop on things. which is why they all show up at hella shorty's late one evening. her head hurts from all the psychic messages -- like a hangover without the fun part -- but she presses on.)
Sorry, I know we're all still recovering from what a shit show the other night was, but for once I'm the one with an abundance of new information to share.
(and maybe she's hoping the distraction will help waverly a little.)
[Waverly had been just about to slip out when Wynonna called, and as such there's a stack of take out containers sitting on the bar next to her when everyone arrives. Her plan for the evening had been maybe going to see Lilith, hoping that she might have the answers that Lucifer couldn't give her.
She's also hoping to convince Aiden and Ray that the rest of Team Human is safe enough to be let in on things, that they're trustworthy enough, but so far those pleas are falling on deaf ears.
She doesn't blame them for being suspicious, but maybe they're reaching a point where they don't have a choice. Still Wynonna is coming with information, and she can't help but be intrigued.]
( His first thought is, what in tarnation? Someone banging on his trailer door is never a good thing. But, he cannot keep his hat on when he sees Wynonna in the wedding dress. The one she cannot take off. Waverly's arrival is not expected, nor is her beautiful declaration. Doc does not make it to unraveling the latest mystery, nor does he attend a wedding. As soon as he hears that Waverly procured her dress from a store on Hogback Rd, his eyes open anew inside Mammon's castle.
He finds his Blackberry. He has several messages to send. He does pause, getting up from the bed to see his reflection again, and his tan skin.
Well, now he really does need to say something. Several something's. )
(this time, when doc wakes up with new memories, wynonna does not. she has no idea that she's speaking to a now human doc -- let alone that she decided to play dress up in her sister's wedding dress. as it is, though, she can't help but smile as she sees the text. it's been nice, getting on better terms with him again. good terms, even.)
i had to be careful about the position since the tattoo is still sore, but otherwise i slept well. it's nice to have something akin to a break here. you?
[After Fitz leaves and Waverly is left to ruminate on the things he said and eventually realizes that she's spiraling. She misses her sister living right next door, where she could knock on her door or flop on her bed.
[The spell breaks and the angel returns. Everything returns, sharp and solid and in a way it hurts more than the spell itself. She flees from them all finding isolation out in the dredges. Unlike original flavor Waverly, the angel needs time to process. To ponder. And to decide what she is going to do about the situation she's in.
It's become obvious at this point, that God doesn't seem to care if she returns to her duty or not. He seems to want her to become a demon, but she doesn't want to be a demon. She wants to stay as she is. She wants to get out of Hell. And as far as she's concerned, there's only really one way to do that.
She tells herself that returning to Wynonna is a strategic choice, one made out of logical sense and not anything deeper. She is above the petty dealings of mortals, after all. But when she feels the departures, both the Shield and the Revenant, it's hard to say that it's not also out of not wanting to be alone.
The angel appears in Wynonna's room one night, perched on the edge of her bed, wings still outstretched behind her.]
(wynonna got saved by diana a while ago, and even though the spell is broken now, hellburbia no longer feels safe. nowhere feels safe really. maybe nowhere here is and it was foolish to ever think it was.
wynonna, like she often is, is nursing a bottle of whiskey when the angel appears. the shield. nicole. it hurts to hear her best friend is gone, but she didn't deserve to be here. neither did waverly. wynonna does though, she figured that out a while ago. doc did too. and of course bobo did. but who comes and goes seems to be random and doesn't reflect what people deserve at all.)
Good. She was too good for this place. (a pause and then:)
